Takehiko Inoue This announcement will delight all the fans of Real, but also of Inoue in general. This mangaka is also famous in Italy, mainly thanks to the two series Slam Dunk and Vagabond, which are two of the best-selling mangas in history. One of the main aspects of Inoue is his strong passion for basketball, which he deals with in Slam Dunk and Real.

Published as a series after Slam Dunk, Real is a manga that once again revisits a story revolving around basketball, but this time Inoue tackles different themes. She focuses on the life of some boys who, in addition to being related to basketball, are linked in one way or another to the world of the disabled. So the mangaka deals with wheelchair basketball.

Real made its debut in Weekly Young Jump magazine in 1999 and is still ongoing, although with irregular periodicity. The first fourteen volumes have sold over 16 million copies in Japan alone and the manga is published in Italy by Panini Comics since 2004.

The events revolve around three characters named Kiyoharu, Tomomi and Hisanobu. Although they are very different, their paths intersect in misfortune and desire for redemption. Kiyoharu has one leg amputated due to an illness and is therefore wheelchair bound. This does not bring him down and does not turn him away from basketball.

Tomomi, who loves basketball with all her heart, is haunted by the remorse of having caused a car accident by handicapping a girl. Hisanobu, on the other hand, is the captain of his high school basketball team, but remains a paraplegic after being hit by a truck. The lives of these three characters gradually come together in a touching story about friendship, courage and love.
