Platinum End Season 2: Renewed or cancelled? Platinum End Season 2 is the expected sequel to the popular dark-fantasy anime that first aired in the fall of 2021. It’s been a year since the last season ended and viewers are still waiting with high hopes for the new installment. So when can viewers expect to see the sequel to this series?
Here’s everything we know so far about whether or not Platinum End season 2 will take place in 2023, as well as its possible release date.
The Japanese anime Platinum End is an adaptation of the manga series written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, the creator of the famous Death Note.
The story follows Mirai Kakehashi, who is one of 13 candidates chosen by various angels to assume the role of God, who will retire in 999 days.
Signal MD produced the first season of the anime, which officially ran for 24 episodes from October 8, 2021 to March 25, 2022, on various local networks in Japan.
Crunchyroll broadcast the anime outside of Japan with dubbing and subtitles, and received positive reviews from viewers and critics. Most of them praised it for its well-thought-out death game story involving gods and angels.
Will there be a season 2 of Platinum End?
At the time of writing, Studio Signal MD, publisher Shueisha or other members of the production committee have not officially renewed the anime for a second season.
Many anime manage to get a new season right after the end of the first one, but unfortunately, Platinum End is not one of them .
|SEASON||DATE OF RELEASE|
|Platinum End Season 1||October 8, 2021|
|Platinum End Season 2||Not yet announced|
However, it is possible to know whether or not the anime will have a new season by carefully evaluating the following three factors:
- Availability of information sources
We will now examine these factors to see if the Platinum End anime will have a sequel or not.
Are the sources sufficient for Platinum End season 2?
Platinum End is a direct adaptation of the manga series written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata.
It began publication in Shueisha’s monthly magazine Jump Square in November 2015.
The first volume of the manga was released on February 4, 2016, and the last issue was released on February 4, 2021.
In total, fourteen volumes have been published so far, and the manga is complete.
The first season of thePlatinum End anime adapted all the content of the manga, and therefore, there was no more source material to cover in the second season.
Conclusion: Currently, there is no more source material to cover in Platinum’s End Season 2, which is bad news because Studio Signal MD cannot start working on a new series without material.
In the past, some anime with a definite end have received sequels due to their success, profitability and popularity, such as Code Geass and Naruto.
If Platinum End is given the green light for a new project, there are several potential directions to take, including a spin-off written by the author, which could explore other aspects of the world or characters such as the Specified Scientific Railgun and the Specified Scientific Accelerator.
The animation team can also create new original stories that build on the existing universe, as Code Geass and Boruto did.
Anime Rating Platinum End
Platinum End’s animated adaptation received a mixed reception from Western fans. Many viewers and critics praised it for being better than the source material in some aspects, while others criticized its uneven pace and messy ending.
The series received positive reviews from viewers around the world, earning a decent score of 6.0 on MyAnimeList and ranking 589th in popularity, but with a large membership (over 360,000) on its MAL group.
It also received a 6.1/10 rating on IMDb and a 59% approval rating on AniList, which shows that the popularity of the series is very high despite its young age.
In conclusion, the anime series has gained great popularity in Japan and the West and generates a lot of revenue from the sale of merchandise, which proves that it has a strong and loyal fan base.
With the potential to generate more sales, it is likely that Platinum End Season 2 will be announced in the future.
When will Platinum End season 2 be released?
Platinum End season 2 has not been confirmed yet, so there is no release date for the anime. As the main plot of the manga was fully adapted in the first season, it is unlikely that the anime will return, but there is no harm in hoping for it.
For the anime to continue, the studio will have to come up with an original story since there is no sequel to the manga at the moment. Other possibilities include a spin-off, an original story or a feature film, although the one that will happen soon is still the least likely of the spectrum.
For the moment, no official announcement has been made, so readers should keep in mind that this is only speculation.
However, we invite you to watch this space as we will update it as soon as something official is announced, which should happen in the coming months.
